As someone finding unable to have children now through sudden medical reasons before being able to try, I found it comforting/interesting to hear her views.

Chris and I stood on the other side of that door for about 20 minutes, looking at each other and listening to her gurgling into her bottle and singing to herself, hardly daring to move or make a sound for fear that we might disturb her. When Lisa Faulkner learned that she wouldn't have biological children, her plans and expectations for her life were derailed. I would recommend this book to anyone who is experiencing infertility as it will remind you that you are not alone in your feelings, even on those darker days. It seemed that as soon as my biological clock started ticking, it escalated to a disco beat pretty damn fast. I cried through a lot of this book, not for sadness of what was not to be but of the grief I felt at the time and wasn’t able to express.

Lisa’s words are beautiful and so many sentences could only be truly understood by those who have gone through the same journey. If anyone reading this is struggling to have children please pick up this book it will give you courage and their is help available out their.

I don’t know how Billie’s life is going to turn out, but I will do everything I can to help her be the happiest she can be.

It was so easy to empathise with her on her journey to motherhood and she describes what she went through to get there in an easy to understand but well written way. This book is about Lisa’s quest to be a mum and pretty much reflects my personal experience too ( just the surrogacy consideration was different). A very warm and frank telling of the many years Lisa and her now ex husband and their infertility story. We gave Billie lunch and dinner and bathed her with her new bath toys and wrapped her in a new pink snuggly towel. However, Chris and I get on better now than we ever did, I’ve recently married chef John Torode and we all parent together. However, it was being a birth partner to my sister and knowing the love that I felt the minute I held her children that made me realise birth doesn't define love.

Over two years, my then-partner Chris and I went from trying to get pregnant naturally to having our fertility tested (everything looked normal) and going through IVF three times. So here I would like to recommend this book no matter if you have children or not, or if you are having trouble falling pregnant you may find some suggestions in Lisa's book Meant to Be. From the moment I heard Lisa talking to Chris Evans on Virgin Radio, I knew I needed to read this book. Thank you Lisa for being so honest with your experience, this book really helped me and I related to everything she went through with ivf. This book is good for anyone who has been through this, or, equally, for those who haven’t, to gain an understanding of this difficult journey. For anyone who has ever found themselves facing the unexpected in life – whether that’s infertility, adoption, grief or any other personal challenge – this is an uplifting and honest account of finding love in unexpected places, and building your life on your own terms. It was after I put in those days and months of being there to listen, hold and comfort that it felt real. A great reminder that our paths may be different to those intended, but we can still get to the destination.
