Yes, there is interference along these dimensions, but there seems to be two colliding data streams rather than one “average”.

The package includes the Play Board, pads, and a USB C-to-C cable, with adapters for USB A and Lightning (power users might appreciate the optional USB C-to-MIDI cable). The factory settings of the modules put them on distinct MIDI channels, while the MIDI controller numbers generally go from 1 upwards, but these settings are all editable. Turn the Keys Pad into a mixing console or tune the Guitar Pad into a left-handed guitar: the possibilities are endless.

So that digital music can rhyme with sustainability, the Joue Play was designed to last, just as acoustic instruments. Unlike the Sensel, the Joué doesn't feature Bluetooth for wireless operation, and its interfacing is purely MIDI. The keys pad is particularly interesting because it lets you press and hold a note, then run up and down the other keys to create glides, sweeps and other cool effects.

Curiously, any changes made in the editor have to be dropped on to this image to take effect — there's no incremental editing process. Combine all controllers into one device that you'll always have at hand on the go, in the studio or on stage. So I decided to accept that its useless for pressure, and to just use it in situations where I want to focus on pitch and Y gestures. Available with the Pro option, the Joué Editor software allows you to edit each MIDI message sent by the Play Pads. We've had boutique controllers since at least the first Monome (Sound On Sound September 2008), and the Joué is in similar tradition, coming from a small French company led by the creator of the original Lemur controller. Express yourself in the moment with natural gestures and enjoy all the spontaneity and expressiveness of acoustic instruments. For beginners, it’s fun and rewarding to play – the developers mention teaching music to kids as one application, and that’s certainly something it’s primed for. There's an additional 'vibrato' parameter which translates left-right (X) movement into pitch bend, where the overall range can be set in the editor.

The silicone modules afford some 'give' when pressed, making the surface a bit more haptic than the Sensel Morph, but with a lot less movement than a ROLI Seaboard. And another one which I use with synths that dont support MPE but do support polyphonic aftertouch messages - this version still takes MPE from the Joue, but converts to single channel midi, monitors the active notes on each channel and turns CC74 from each channel into per-note polyphonic aftertouch, and uses ‘most recently pressed note’ to choose which pitch bend message to retain. Again, I am sure touchscreen libraries have functions to deal with this exact issue, but I don’t feel like learning an entirely different codebase to make a MIDI script. The Joue Play is a MIDI controller that can be used with all MIDI-compatible applications and music softwares. Bring unique expressiveness to your music creation and access a new dimension of sound design with the compact and modular MPE MIDI controller. Again there's no indication of which modes are active, so it might have made more sense to have a way to group the buttons into on/off pairs instead.
