You use burn energy when you’re exposed to the elements all day (rain or shine) so getting as much sleep as you can manage is critical - not just for you, but also for your fellow campers too. However, if you are walking and supporting your load in a backpack, you don’t want a camp bed that weighs more than 3 kgs.

You literally unroll it from its carry bag, connect a compatible pump and start doing your business! However it’s not the easiest thing to lug on short trips like festivals when your hands will be full with other things.

If you are happy to trade pack size for the convenience of a pre assembled bed that just needs to be unfolded and the end pieces slotted in then this is great bed, we set up two beds in a four man tent and there was plenty of room under the bed to put our bags. The cot can also be used with just three of the four legs to cut down its weight, making it perfect for those long backpacking expeditions. There are no bars or straps across your back either, giving a very comfortable and restful sleeping position. Bought one a few months ago but upon arrival it had a slight dent in one of the side bars, thought nothing of it until.

Whilst some beds are designed with a small capacity of about 100 kgs, some extend to as high as 180kgs. We have two and both are the same: The fabric needs to be pulled soooo tightly to fit in the end supports. DURABLE - This camp bed from Hi-Gear is built to last with a hard wearing polyester mattress and a sturdy aluminium frame. The single is obviously half the width when set up but doesn’t pack down much smaller at 29 x 20 x 96. Coleman are one of our favourite outdoor gear manufacturers and the Coleman Airbed Cot is a great example of exemplary design. It folds to a transport size of 85 x 80 x 22cm which is pretty big, but still manageable if you have a large estate car or camping trailer. If you’ve ever used an inflatable stand up paddle board or inflatable tent, you’ll immediately understand how to get the Decathlon bed base pumped up.

However we found that it took a bit of strength to lock the legs in place – definitely requires a bit of practice before your trip to loosen the material. Overall, we think the West Lake Galician is a great bed for camping if you’ve got a large car or trailer to transport your camping gear. You can invest in materials such as a memory foam mattress topper, padded cushions, or a sleeping mat.Similarly, unlike fold-out camp beds, airbeds don’t encourage airflow during the warm season either. I'm a fairly strong man and on the bed I've got, even if I did manage it, the fabric would be so tight I'd never be able to disassemble it. I'm looking for the rounded legs because the floor of the side tents on our trailer tent are weak and I don't want to put holes in them with pointy feet.
