Description

Megan McCubbin reveals the stories of the scientists, rangers and conservationists who are fighting to save these extraordinary creatures from extinction. An Atlas of Endangered Animals' is a beautifully illustrated, fascinating and important document of an incredible world at risk, and, just maybe, a handbook for restoring it. An Atlas of Endangered Species shows us that the battle is on for their survival - and we all have a part to play. Her interest stems from a childhood growing up in and around the Isle of Wight Zoo, which specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of ex-circus and pet trade animals.

It examines different ecosystems, the major threats to their inhabitants and steps being taken towards conservation. I listened so I didn't see the dyslexia friendly version of the book but I thought this was brilliant, something that had never occurred to me. Megan's enthusiasm for biodiversity and passion to save endangered species from extinction shines throughout. Much like her presenting style, Megan McCubbin's writing has an effortless appeal to a diverse audience, from the curious child to the most seasoned of conservationists.Pretty sound balance in coupling her own experiences with the essential facts for each of the species that are covered.

Most well-known for presenting the BAFTA award-winning BBC Springwatch series and Animal Park , Megan is a passionate science communicator and biodiversity activist. He is co-author of the World Health Organization's award-winning Inheriting the World: The Atlas of Children's Health and the Environment. Megan does seem to try not to paint too bleak a picture, but I’m afraid I was left feeling that despite the courageous work of the many individuals that she introduces us to in the book, who are fighting to preserve the featured species, it is all ultimately going to prove to be too little, too late. I thought the book is well made its lovely, its nicely presented with further details on the subject and with the added Megan's experiences etc.

She most recently presented Springwatch, alongside Chris Packham, and is the founder of The Self-Isolating Bird Club on twitter, and co-founder of Wildlife Rebellion. A keen photographer, in 2019 she was appointed as the coordinator and judge of Young Bird Photographer of the Year. Beautifully written, capturing the wonder and personality of each creature, big and small perfectly.
