The intrigues at court just put a different atmosphere to the story opposed to the long journey we witness in this one.

There were a few new characters that I really enjoyed, but on a whole this was just a slow journey for them to retrieve the Knife of Memory. In one of the most valuable chapters in the book, J C shares his original approach to designing and building a modern illusion base. I loved how in this second part the plot wasn't around the love story of the characters, like I can say that was so smooth and it really talked about everything. Chris Stolz is known as one of the top up and coming illusion designers in the industry today with incredible creations like his gorgeous looking sawing illusion "4 Way Split" or his incredibly practical levitation for the small stage "Sound Waves". Zoraida Córdova is the acclaimed author of more than a dozen novels and short stories, including the Brooklyn Brujas series, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: A Crash of Fate, and The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina. But it’s totally fine because as much as Ren loves Dez, her life is all about Dez, she grew up being protected and loved by Dez, it’s because she knew Castian as a child, A CHILD, she realises she has always loved him and stops loving Dez like it’s been switched off, just as her repulsion and hate for Castian switches off. They drift apart and find new friends, but their friendship keeps asserting itself at parties, shared holiday gatherings and random encounters. A few really interesting new characters popped up while Castian and Renata were making eyes at each other. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. I have been curious about the Brooklyn Brujas series, but I’m worried that they have maybe aged poorly.

I feel so incredibly honored and happy to have been able to read one of my most anticipated sequels early, and I’m glad that this book surpassed my every expectation. I’m sorry but it feels underdeveloped, by the end of the book you’ve got Ren and Castian together, but she’s slept with his brother Dez too. Cordova has a real strength to her world building and I loved getting to travel around Puerto Leones, visiting different villages, as well as their time spent at sea. But also, Ren found a place where she fit, a place where she could use her powers without others fearing her, and I loved seeing her come to the realisation that there are others out there like her, and that she might just not be alone in the world. But with the King’s forces and Renata’s old friends The Whispers on their tail, and Ren slowly falling into The Grey, the pit of her mind where she has kept all of her stolen memories, danger lurks at every turn.In all honesty I’ve not been loving YA recently so it’s a huge compliment from me to say how much I thoroughly enjoyed it! Corrupt kings, desperate rebels, lost goddesses, magical weapons and dark injustices fill the pages of this fast-paced conclusion to the duology. Some of the most beautiful moments in the novel were when she grows in self-confidence and begins to believe in the good her power can do.

However, I also appreciated the friendships forged and I was especially pleased that Leo, who was one of my favorites in Incendiary was such a big part of this story! Illusionary is the epic conclusion to the fast paced Hollow Crown duology, the story continues to unfold with plenty of surprises and action to keep the reader on the edge of their seat! When the main character is forced to partner with the villain of the story, you just know that tension will be brewing and dear, there’s some real tension.I enjoyed this second book more than the first, but the first book it's also needed because we have to know the characters first and Castian's background to fully understand him and connect with him in the second book and the author achieved that 100% I loved Castian and Renata's chemistry in this second book and i loved to read more about them and Leo than the other characters. Continuing the story of Renata Convida, she has been forced to escape along his once most ardent enemy, prince Castian, trying to live incognito while they find a way to retrieve the long-lost magical item, the Knife of Memory, which should end the unjust rule of King Fernando. I got nervous during a few pages because I was convinced everything was going to go wrong, but it didn't! But I just felt that some of Ren’s interactions felt rushed, and her forgiveness of certain characters and their actions just didn’t feel natural. She'll have to control her magics, her mind, and her heart to unlock her power and protect the Moria people once and for all.

Renata Convida has teamed up with her greatest enemy, Prince Castian and despite their differences, their teamwork is the only thing that can possibly save the world. I’m curious to read something else by Zoraida Córdova, but I think I am going to be very particular about what I choose. They’ll love where the characters all end up and how neatly everything was tied together with a little bow, but I personally didn’t really enjoy it.

Many of the illusions can be built inexpensively and are suitable even for beginners looking to get started in the field of grand illusions. Their continued persecution as a marginalised group feels very reflective of our world, and as we see them begin to instigate change, fighting for a fairer world, we can’t help but want to fight too. J C and his onstage partner, 'Magic Babe' Ning, utilize this cutting edge base design in several of their illusions featured in their live shows and on TV across the world. did what it needed to do, it provided closure, while also leaving a few things open for interpretation, or it at least will let you ponder about the future. That was just something about it that hooked me right from the beginning again and, with the way Córdova developed the story, I had such a feeling of deep satisfaction while reading this that I'm writing this review with a smile on my face.
